First off, let’s remember, Singing is Fun. No really, I’m not kidding, it is. I promise. It’s only not fun when you are uncomfortable, stressed, or insecure, which, I believe, is the definition of an audition or doing something new. So let’s step away from that scary beast for a moment.
The first thing you need is good basic technique. I’m talking about the big 3: Breathing, Focus, and Resonators. In my classes, we make sure you have great basic technique. I believe that once we ground you in the basics, the sky is the limit to what you can do and where you can go. My extensive professional experience has helped me hone my own vocal technique and allowed me to be exposed to a myriad of teaching techniques. I use this knowledge to help me find the right technique and the right teaching style for you. Singing is not a “One Size Fits All” activity. Let me help you find your voice.
Once we ground you in the basics, we will work on your voice’s trouble spots. While I don’t know your voice (yet), I would be willing to bet you have a weaker part of your voice, whether it’s your belt, your mix, your chest or head voice, or your passagio. Welcome to being a singer. Everyone has something they don’t do as well. I will work with you to strengthen whatever that area is and teach you to go seamlessly between them all. We will also work to find your voice in different styles of music and how to access those styles through resonances and focus.
Ok, remember the scary monster we left up in that first paragraph? Well, let’s deal with him now. It’s called fear, and if you are reading this, then you are already taking the first steps to face that fear. Physiologically speaking, fear causes muscle tension, and muscle tension screws up vocal technique. So the stress you feel is causing the outcome you feared. Well, I do know a few things about fear and muscle tension, and I can help you find your way to sing through them. To sing in front of others the way you know you can. How nice would that be? The more confident you become in your technique, the less those fears will be able to derail you.
In my studio, I foster a supportive, fun and above all SAFE space where we can learn new techniques and work through those fears that get in your way. I enforce a strict “No Judgment Zone”, and I mean you too. Give yourself a break. Lots of what we work on will be brand new to you. Give yourself the gift of allowing yourself to fail. I promise it will hurt a whole lot less than you think it will.
As an industry professional and a working NY actor, I have put my 15 years of professional theater experience to good use in my classes. I have taught Broadway actors and absolute beginners. The one thing all of my students have in common is they want to learn to sing better. And they do. So come and give us a try. It will be fun, I promise.
Classes are offered in sessions or individual lessons. Ages 13 and up.

I approach coaching the same way I approach voice lessons. Performing is fun, darn it, so let’s get rid of those nerves and have some fun. With my 20 years of experience both on and off the stage, I have learned from both sides of the table what works and what doesn’t in the Audition Room. As an actor I know how it feels to walk into that room. As the director, I know how an actor can capture my attention or lose it, and having worked as a Casting Associate, I have experienced firsthand how the actor can improve their entire audition. I can teach you how to maximize your effectiveness in the room, from how to take the space, to choosing the appropriate material for yourself and the specific auditions.

"Stephanie brought her enthusiasm, experience and real-world sensibility to her teaching and really used the time she had with us. She was interested in learning who we were as individuals; she invested in us, and I always felt genuinely supported. Her acting training stressed the passion and immediacy we always need to have to do our best work. It was such a valuable semester."
~Hana, Indiana University Sophmore"I had been out of the singing world for quite a while and when I started working with Stephanie, I immediately regained my confidence. I also felt like I was getting a perfect balance of technique training and a real-world sensibility that was going to help me up my game for auditions. She guided me with ease and constructive criticism."
